‘…and at that moment his consciousness, emotions, and soul split into twenty-four parts.’ — Daniel Keyes, The Minds of Billy Milligan.
In this project, I explore issues of identity, disorders of self-awareness, and ‘Pathological Metamorphoses,’ where a person perceives themselves as another personality, an animal, or even an inanimate object. This transformation is based on a defense mechanism of non-acceptance, rejection, or denial of one’s identity ascribed by society, transitioning to another identity that aligns with one’s own feelings.
The series includes seven square miniatures from which pointed stingers ‘grow.’ These stingers endow the paintings with object-like qualities and serve as a metaphor for protection against a hostile world.
